Meet the Team
Company Director: Tricia Bryant, RGN.
Tricia Bryant, a trained nurse by background, has been working in this sector for more than 15 years. Following seven years in clinical practice Tricia moved on to the pharmaceutical industry where she was involved in a number of nurse advisor programmes. In 1997 she moved to an agency specialising in healthcare educational programmes and events where she was introduced to her first healthcare society and was responsible for its back-office functions; she was also responsible for the faculty management for the educational events. She went on to set up Red Hot Irons, based in a old blacksmith’s forge, in 1999.
Red Hot Irons has grown from a single self-employed individual to a company with four full-time staff and a further three part-time staff. With offices in Scotland and Birmingham Red Hot Irons is now a thriving, busy company serving more than six healthcare charities. Tricia is very proud of all her staff for their dedication, teamwork and commitment to their jobs.
Project Manager: Elise Harvey, Elise has worked for Red Hot Irons for four years. Elise has been working with ABCD since 2004 providing meeting management and secretariat services to the Association. She also manages a number of events each year for YDF (Young Diabetologists Forum – the Specialist Registrar arm of Diabetes UK), from small multi-day training events to their annual meeting at the Diabetes UK APC each March.
After graduation, Elise worked on an Onchocerciasis research project at the School of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool before heading to Africa to work for an adventure tour operator, both in the field as a cook and tour leader, and latterly in the office as Operations Manager. From 1998 – 2003, Elise worked for Maritz, a large event management company, where she gained a breadth of experience in managing product launches, incentives, educational meetings, congress groups and advisory board meetings for pharmaceutical companies. She has worked with audiences of GP’s, nurses, consultants, sales force and pharmaceutical company personnel, in locations throughout the UK and abroad.
Office Manager: Kim Esslemont, Kim Esslemont joined Red Hot Irons in 2011, having spent the previous eleven years working at Education for Health, where she gained extensive administration knowledge, leading her to a PA role for the Director of Education & Research. In her current role at Red Hot Irons Kim supports the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK by delivering back-office functions and acting as PA to the Chief Executive. Her role includes diary management, the organisation and co-ordination of all committee meetings from venue booking through to attending, minute taking and distribution, the raising and processing of all invoices for payment and the general day to day assistance to the Chief Executive of the charity. She also acts as Office Manager for Red Hot Irons. Kim also supports the team in the delivery of major events.
Databases and Systems Manager: Heather Oliver, Heather joined Red Hot Irons in 2017 and in her current role manages the client websites and databases, specialising in CiviCRM and Drupal software, and supports with a range of other IT systems including conference apps. Prior to this Heather spent the previous eight years working as a Senior Projects Officer focusing on CRM implementation, development and support. Before moving to the UK in 2009, Heather was living in her native Canada, where she managed databases for a number of retail companies.
Project Administrators and Assistants:
Jennifer Atkinson, Jen works part-time as an administrative assistant for Red Hot Irons. She has a degree in Business and 9 years experience in hospitality management. Jen supports the administration and back-office functions for the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists and she also assists the whole Red Hot Irons team with other client annual conferences which includes the build up pre-work and on site management.
Myfanwy Gomersall, Myf has worked for Red Hot Irons for over ten years. She has worked in the conference industry since 1993 where she started her career in hotel management, becoming a conference manager at a 5* hotel. She then went on to work for an international event management company, for five years where she organised pharmaceutical regional meetings and product launches in the UK and Europe from start to completion. In her role she also regularly organised groups of attendees to many congresses in both Europe and worldwide.
Events and Governance Assistant, Laurie Williams, Laurie joined Red Hot Irons in 2015 to provide ongoing operations and administration support to the office-based team. She assists with the preparation of conferences and events and other meetings as well as governance duties. Laurie worked for a community interest accountancy firm for 4 years and qualified as an accounting technician in 2012. She has predominantly worked with charities and not-for-profit organisations in the third-sector previously, as well as organising and planning financial events and delivering training sessions.
